Back in 1994, after a couple of years stood at the front of raves and dance events watching DJ's like Sy and Easygroove work, and listening to their tapes at home, I got hold of some vinyl and some turntables (without pitch control at first!) and had a crack at mixing myself.

For some reason, I decided to play house music, and made countless tapes for myself and friends, before getting asked to play a "Phase 2" party after a club night in Newquay in January 1995.

From there I went on to play at various parties and events around St Austell and then at The Shirehorse in St Ives, where Spiritual Promotions was started, a name which, on and off, put on events in Cornwall until 1999.

Residencies at a night called Fat Tunes, a crew from Bodmin which held nights in St Austell and Newquay, a guest spot at techno rave Flyin Time on New Years' Eve in 1999, and regular spots at Full Contact, a hugely successful underground night in St Austell all preceeded somewhat of a calming down period.

Taking over as house resident at Cafe Korova in Truro, Friday warm-up drum and bass DJ for Mastervibe and his guests at The Koola in Newquay, and Saturday afternoon regular at a retro clothing emporium next door led to the hanging up of my headphones in 2001, and perhaps stupidly, the giving away of my record collection - 2,000 slabs of choice vinyl for free.

And the whole Fat Tunes experience, which sadly ended pretty angrily when personal politics was allowed to get in the way of the music, maybe talent really isn't an excuse for bad behaviour!
